25-year-old with terminal cancer has dream wedding

Newlyweds facing terminal cancer enjoy their first Christmas as man and wife.

Lauren was just 23 years old when she was told she had cancer. From the moment she received the news, her then boyfriend Jos茅 was by her side and at every appointment.

Lauren from Ashton-under-Lyne said 鈥淚 was diagnosed on the 19th February 2018 with cervical cancer. It was then confirmed the cancer had actually spread so it鈥檚 now terminal鈥.

The couple had only been together for a year when Lauren was diagnosed but their relationship went from strength to strength and soon Jos茅 popped the question.

Jos茅 said, 鈥淚 wanted to ask Lauren to marry me because I wanted to show her just how much I do love and that we鈥檙e there for each other through thick and thin鈥.

Soon the charity Gift of a Wedding heard about Lauren and Jos茅. It helps couples with a terminal diagnosis have their dream day by bringing together suppliers who donate time and services 鈥 often at very short notice.

Jos茅鈥檚 friend singer-songwriter Tom Walker performed at the wedding which took place at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire.

Jos茅 said 鈥淚t does help that we鈥檙e crazy about each other and we鈥檙e madly in love so that鈥檚 overshadowed this bad news that we鈥檝e had, and we鈥檝e just enjoyed every moment that we can鈥

Two women die each day from cervical cancer in England. Public Health England said in March 2019, 鈥淚t鈥檚 estimated that if everyone attended screening regularly, 83% of cases could be prevented鈥

Lauren has now started an immunotherapy trial at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. The couple 鈥 now Mr and Mrs Rosa say they鈥檙e looking forward to their first Christmas as newlyweds.
