Too difficult to be a carer and a councillor?

Weymouth Town Council has mounted a challenge to Government over an inequality issue faced by people wanting to become Parish and Town councillors in England.

Currently, Weymouth Town Council which is one of the biggest in the country, is not permitted to pay an allowance for childcare or a dependent’s care expenses. It wants the inequality lifted with a change in legislation.

Councils across England and Wales, and the National Association of Local Councils support the legal challenge.

Weymouth Town Council clerk, Jane Biscombe, told Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Solent, "we just wanted to be treated the same, have the same opportunities, and the same reduction in barriers."
