The professor using social media to 'make education fashionable'
Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng became the first black South African to get a PhD in mathematics education - after a stranger paid for her education. Wanting to repay that act of kindness, she set up a foundation to help other students pay for their university fees.
Now as the vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town, she is using #MakeEducationFashionable on social media to encourage other people to share their own education stories. She tells Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ OS she hopes these will inspire others.
