In session

Loula's first concert growing up was at Kidderminster Town Hall - and it was at that event she realised she wanted to become a professional singer.
Μύ
The songwriter, from Hartlebury, is now 17-years-old and has penned more than 40 original tracks.
Μύ
She's also sung on lo-fi house music and in jazz bands, rock bands and church choirs.
Μύ
However, her own musical influences lie in artists such as Lily Allen, Ed Sheeran and James Blunt.
Μύ
"One of the finest - if not the finest - soulful voices I’ve heard. To be just 17 and have that many lyrics - a true star in the making.” – Andrew Marston.

Christmas cards

It's hoped that selling Christmas cards will help raise money towards the restoration of the church where the composer Sir Edward Elgar is buried.
Μύ
The roman catholic church of St Wulstan, in Malvern Wells, is having comprehensive work done to its stonework and stained glass windows.
Μύ
The church's Father Edward says it's due to Elgar's wife Alice's affection for St Wulstan's that the family is buried there.

Artist of the Week

Most people, when they get married, go on a honeymoon. But for Worcester's Peter Richard Adams and Rosie Green, they decided to go in to the studio to make a Christmas album!
Μύ
That's what they did last year; they've since made another Christmas album including both standards and new original material, called Nine Lessons.
Μύ
Peter has been involved in local bands including And What Will Be Left Of Them? and Hey You Guys! whilst Rosie is a classically trained musician and member of the renowned Basement Orchestera & Stow-Capella Choir.

Quill's Christmas track

Worcestershire's Quill, whose members have worked with bands such as ELO, The Move and Black Sabbath and have played together since the 1970's, have now penned a Christmas song.
Μύ
Five years ago, the band took the decision to carry on writing and performing after the death of bassist Ben and complete tracks he had started.
Μύ
The band performed some of them when they joined us in session at Kidderminster College earlier this year.

The live music advent calendar

Throughout the whole of December, we're dedicating the second hour of our shows to live music.
Μύ
We won't be playing a single CD, MP3, tape or vinyl - because we're giving you the music you won't be able to get anywhere else on the planet!
Μύ
This month, hear tracks performed at the Worcester Music Festival, Ledbury's Market Theatre, Kidderminster College, Gordon Bennett's in Hereford, Malvern Cube, The Railway in Redditch, Lakefest at Eastnor Castle, The Norbury Theatre in Droitwich, The Hay Festival, HopFest near Bewdley, the Conquest in Bromyard and at ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Maida Vale.

Features

Pubarotti at Christmas

Worcester's 'Pubarotti', Luke Swatman, previews our Celebration of Christmas at Malvern Theatres - which you can hear on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.
Μύ
Luke is a classical singer influenced by such names as Andrea Bocelli, Barbra Streisand, Elaine Paige, Michael Ball, Russell Watson and his nickname's sake, Pavarotti.
Μύ
In March 2018, he performed at Worcester Competitive Arts Festival, taking home several gongs.
Μύ
But it wasn’t until a few months later that he came to the attention of the international media after an informal rendition on karaoke of Nessun Dorma at The Eagle Vaults went viral online.
Μύ
He was dubbed 'Pubarotti' and the 'new Paul Potts'.ΜύThis year has seen Luke appearing on The Voice UK.

The Hereford Carol

A Hereford community choir are asking for help to save their Christmas.
Μύ
The Garrick Singers had been due to perform a brand new festive composition in public for the first time this Christmas.Μύ
Μύ
Mike Truelove, a member of the group has written The Hereford Carol especially for the choir but their planned performance fell through.
Μύ
They're putting out an appeal for another venue to accommodateΜύthem.

ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Music Introducing in Bromyard

This month's sessions come from the Conquest Threatre in Bromyard.
Μύ
If you've only ever driven through the town before, the venue is on what we like to call 'Nozstock Street!'.
Μύ
The theatre has now been hosting events at its Tenbury Road location for a quarter of a century - but they'd been campaigning for a facility like this since the '50s, according to the records book.
Μύ
Originally, events had been held in an 'old tin hut' which had been built in 1919 by the Royal British Legion. But eventually they decided an all-singing, all-dancing venue was what the town needed.
