Bill Gates: ‘Polio eradication will take longer than expected’
Billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates now says that polio will be eradicated worldwide by 2030. That's a decade later than the initial timeline that he and other health agencies wanted. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has contributed nearly 3 billion US dollars toward wiping out the disease. Polio is a virus that spreads in areas with poor sanitation, attacks the nervous system and can cause irreversible paralysis within hours of infection. But it can be prevented with vaccination. Â鶹ԼÅÄ Newsday's Paul Hawkins has been speaking to Bill Gates about whether he is disappointed by the delay:
