Heartbreak songs don’t have to be all about crying and ice cream. We meet students belting out their favourite break up tracks, talk about how music can be changed forever by memories of a certain someone, and hear from psychologist Jo Hemmings just exactly what’s happening in our brains during those sad times.
From Adele to Zara Larsson, everyone has a favourite track they turn to in times of heartbreak. For every stage, from the messy tears to the pure anger, there’s a song out there for every type of feeling, and Arielle wants to know why they’re so catchy and relatable. Emily Warren, a singer and songwriter who co-wrote Dua Lipa’s New Rules, tells us the story behind the writing process and how she translated raw emotion into a global success.
Plus Jax Jones talks about the power of dance music that’s both melancholic and joyous, Maisie Peters reveals how she wrote some heartbroken songs when she was too young to know what heartbreak felt like, Blossoms tell us what music they put on when they want to let all the feelings out and Pale Waves open up about how a real life break up inspired some of their latest tracks.
