Meet the Chinese ASMR whisperer
MT Koala is one of China’s first ASMR stars – autonomous sensory meridian response, or ASMR, is described as a feeling of well-being combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and neck, as experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus, which could be the sound of whispers, paper tearing, ruffling feathers or eating crackers.
She broadcasts on Chinese video platforms such as Bilibili and echo and, more recently, opened a YouTube channel, in order to reach out to Chinese audiences beyond the Chinese Great Firewall.
