The Power of Drama
When five teenagers were wrongfully convicted of raping a woman in New York in 1989, the case was propelled into the public conscious. A subsequent documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns added to the conversation. Now, the highest rated show on Netflix in the US, βWhen They See Usβ, has given yet more fresh light with former prosecutor turned author Linda Fairstein losing the backing of her publisher as a result of the show. Critic Eddie Harrison and former civil rights activist Candace Allen discuss whether this is a turning point in the power of drama.
