Weymouth family rescued from yacht fire off Dorset coast

A Weymouth family, and their dogs were rescued from their yacht when it caught fire off Swanage just a day after they set sail on the 'journey of a lifetime'.

Jon and Lou Stevens renovated motor yacht Juliette - buying it at auction after it had been out of service for 13 years.

They spent two and a half years doing it up and cruised the west country last summer - but disaster struck on Saturday off the Dorset coast.

Jon, his wife Lou, his daughter, dad and dogs were on board.

The family had just decided to live onboard and had moved their possessions onto the yacht last week.

Jon told Steve Harris that the fire could have been 'a lot worse' had it not been for carrying five times the number of recommended fire extinguishers and using their diving equipment as breathing apparatus to help fight the fire.
