Who was Kane Walker?
Kane Walker’s shocking death in a Birmingham underpass on a freezing night in January 2019 was widely reported in the media. But who was he? How did he end up on the street? And why was nobody able to prevent his death?
With previously unheard audio of Kane, and interviews with people who knew and loved him, this documentary pieces together Kane’s life an explores the reasons for a 900 percent increase in rough sleeping in Birmingham since 2010.
With music designed to capture the distracting and schizophrenic nature of life on the street, and specially commissioned poetry from Birmingham poet Hannah Swingler, every interview in this documentary was recorded on the streets where Kane lived and died.
Our pop up art gallery, showcasing Oliver Obee’s photos of rough sleepers in Birmingham, has been seen by 8000 people in Digbeth.Β Β
