Nearly two million people have taken part in a mass protest in Hong Kong against a controversial extradition bill, according to organisers. The business community there has largely been supportive of the protesters. However, property magnate Allan Zeman, best known as the founder of Hong Kong's famous bar district Lan Kwai Fong, says that the bill is the way to go, but that the authorities should have done more to explain it. He also criticises how the protests have been handled, in particular the use of teargas.
With over 35 years of experience of doing business with China, Mr Zaman believes that it has no desire to change the status of Hong Kong as it serves a financial purpose. Although Mr Zaman acknowledges that China is an authoritarian state, it says it has been changing beyond recognition and that people of Hing Kong have nothing to fear.
