D-Day 75th Anniversary – Memories from Veterans and Civilians

PM is marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day – June 6th, 1944 – by hearing experiences of the Normandy landings. First in our series we hear from an American, Jake Larson, who was one of more than 34,000 soldiers from that country who landed on Omaha Beach, and is the last surviving member of his unit. Then we hear from a British tank driver, John Graves, who was one of half-a-million troops who were in Normandy for Operation Overlord. But what were the Normandy landings like for civilians? Our third interview is with French couple Thérèse and Pierre Le Chevalier, who had contrasting experiences of D-Day. And finally we hear memories from one of three surviving members of the Marine Commando of the Free French Forces.
