Long Interview: Henry McLeish

β€œI want to begin with the words that I have always wanted either to say or to hear someone else say: the Scottish Parliament, which adjourned on 25 March 1707, is hereby reconvened.” – That was the quote from Dr Winnie Ewing which led the coverage of the opening of the Scottish Parliament on the 12th of May 1999. Just over a year later, the death of First Minister Donald Dewar caused upheaval in Scotland’s emerging political landscape. Henry McLeish, who took over in late 2000, had helped to get the Scotland Act, which re-established the Scottish Parliament, through the House of Commons. Good Morning Scotland’s Bill Whiteford speaks to the former First Minister.
