"...it's the puzzle, the unravelling of it..." - Dr Richard Shepherd on a lifetime in pathology
Imagine being the first on the scene at a situation where the most unimaginable horror has happened.
The shooting in Hungerford; the bombings in Bali; 9/11 ... Dr Richard Shepherd was at them all, examining the bodies and trying to tell the story of the final moments of the folks who could no longer speak for themselves.
In fact, over time, he worked on more than 23-thousand cases in a career that made him the UK's leading forensic pathologist.
But doing that also had an impact on him - as he details in his book 'Unnatural Causes'. He's been speaking to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cornwall's Jack Murley.
