Young crofters in the Highlands and Islands
Most first time buyers struggling to get on the housing ladder can at least apply for a bank loan or mortgage.
That isn’t the case for people looking to acquire a croft, a small plot of farm-able land, sometimes with a house attached.
With no commercial mortgages available and no government backed-schemes to help young people acquire the land, there are fears it's a way of life that could be lost.
