Venezuela on the Brink

Saturday saw massive rallies take place across Venezuela’s capital Caracas, as the country’s political and economic meltdown continues without an end in sight.

Triggered by calls from the interim president, Juan Guaido, as part of a final push to try to topple President NicolΓ‘s Maduro, both sides of the country’s political divide turned out in large numbers.

But since the inconclusive election, the dire situation the nation – hyperinflation, political corruption and economic collapse – has deepened.
ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ correspondent Will Grant reports from a shanty town about how nationwide power cuts have hit water supplies, raising the spectre of disease in the poorest areas; while Carlos Molina, a former Rear Admiral in the Venezuelan Army and who was also a security advisor to the Chavez government, and Maryhen JimΓ©nez Morales, Oxford University specialist in Venezuelan politics, analyse how the crisis can be resolves.
