The Late Junction Festival 2019
In late February 2019 Radio 3's flagship esoteric music programme launched its very first festival in East London. Set over two nights at Hackneyβs EartH venue and in partnership with The Barbican, the festival featured performances from emerging talents and veteran pioneers championed by the programme as well as live incarnations of the Late Junction collaboration sessions.
Topping the bill on the opening night was Gazelle Twin, who gave an electrifying performance of Pastoral in her eerie βRed Impβ guise, followed on Friday by This Is Not This Heat: the 21st century incarnation of seminal post-punk outfit This Heat. Other acts included medieval-pop quintet Hen Ogledd featuring Richard Dawson, the new outfit by jazz drummer Seb Rochford; Pulled by Magnets, shape shifting electro-acoustic compositions from CHAINES, avant-garde rap from CURL and deconstructed Japanese folk from O Yama O.
