Is Facebook failing over fake news?

UK lawmakers are calling for tougher laws to force tech companies to crack down on fake news and disinformation.

A report by an influential UK parliamentary committee claims that Facebook 'intentionally and knowingly' violated data privacy laws, and is pushing for stricter rules, including a compulsory code of ethics for social media companies. Facebook said it welcomed the report, and would be open to any form of 'meaningful regulation'. The firm also says they've already taken steps to reduce problems on their platform.

Ian Lucas, a member of parliament who sits on the UK's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee told the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Susannah Streeter why he and other lawmakers believe Facebook is failing when it comes to fake news.
