Will adopting children in Ethiopian become easier?

The Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his wife have been given permission to adopt a child by courts in Addis Ababa. The little boy - named Million - is less that two years old and has been living in an orphanage until now.

The head of the Supreme Court said their decision could be a model for other Ethiopians to adopt disadvantaged children. In 2018, the government banned the adoption of Ethiopian children by foreigners.

Aselefech Evans was adopted to the United States at the age of six. She told Newsday's Shaimaa Khalil why she supports the Prime Minister's decision.
