Turning your savings group into a successful business
A savings group consists of a small number of people who pool savings and take turns receiving a fixed amount on a regular basis. They are also investment vehicles for group projects.
Savings groups are popularly known as βsusuβ in Ghana, "stokvel" in South Africa, βchamaβ in Kenya and βlikelembeβ in DR Congo. In South Africa, there are over 820 000 stokvels in with a combined membership of 11.4 million people. They handle over $3 billion per annum.
