Turning your savings group into a successful business

A savings group consists of a small number of people who pool savings and take turns receiving a fixed amount on a regular basis. They are also investment vehicles for group projects.

Savings groups are popularly known as β€œsusu” in Ghana, "stokvel" in South Africa, β€œchama” in Kenya and β€œlikelembe” in DR Congo. In South Africa, there are over 820 000 stokvels in with a combined membership of 11.4 million people. They handle over $3 billion per annum.
