Bangladesh election: Hasina seeks fourth term

The Bangladeshi prime minister, Sheikh Hasina of the Awami League party, is seeking re-election. Her campaign has been marred by controversy. The opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party claims it's been shut out by the mainstream media, and thousands of activists have been arrested.

The ruling party hopes Bangladesh's 100 million voters will focus instead on the country’s economic progress. Per-capita incomes have tripled since 2009 and the annual average growth rate of over 6% in the past decade is one of the fastest in the developing world.

Debapriya Bhattacharya, an economist at the Centre for Policy Dialogue in Dhaka, says youth unemployment is a growing issue.
