Tom Cruise wants to fix your TV settings

The Mission Impossible actor Tom Cruise has taken on a fair number of adversaries in his years in front of the camera. Now he has a new villain in his sights - a technical feature built into television sets called motion smoothing.

Tom Cruise has posted a video on social media criticising the TV effect, saying it makes blockbuster films look like low budget soap operas.

Tom Cruise's mission - which may prove impossible for the technically challenged - is to switch off the motion smoothing feature in the TV settings. Video interpolation or motion smoothing is meant to give us crisper pictures when watching in high definition.

So will he succeed? We asked Caroline Frost, an entertainment journalist in the UK and is the TV Chair at the Broadcasting Press Guild.
