In Britain, most residents are required to buy a licence each year to watch television.

As a result of this licence fee, we learned that around 7,000 people say they still have black-and-white TVs, half a century after colour broadcasting began in the UK. The main reason has to do with cost; people pay less if they watch a black-and-white television rather than one that receives pictures in colour.

According to Edward Tenner, a researcher at Princeton University and author of 'Why Things Bite Back,' there are also some people who simply prefer to avoid newer technologies.
