Cruise ships

This week, we're starting a brand new series looking at the life of a musician on board a cruise ship.
Μύ
Jasper Taylor, from Worcester, is currently touring around the Australian coast on the Pacific Jewel.
Μύ
In recent years, his band, Jasper in the Company of Others, has shared the stage with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Ben Howard, Ed Sheeran, Cast and Toploader.
Μύ
They’ve been long fixtures on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Hereford & Worcester and have joined us on many of our festival stages in the past!
Μύ

Jazz workshop

A new jazz workshop, specialising in the art of improvisation, has begun in Malvern.
Μύ
Simon Purcell, who's the Professor of Jazz at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, is holding a monthly event for 12 musicians at The Cube.
Μύ
He says: "I would hope in the same way as London in the '90s, we formed something called Jazz Umbrella which was a network of gigs and workshops. Perhaps, in two years' time, the jazz workshops, educational events, the youth jazz orchestras and the performances can form their own Hereford & Worcester jazz umbrella."
Μύ
The next event takes place on 15 December and to book your place call 07830 145108 or 07707 638285.
Μύ

Remi Harris

He's one of the most prolific live performers in our area - and this week Bromyard's Remi Harris has been talking to ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Hereford & Worcester about life on the road.
Μύ
The former rocker ditched his electric guitars in favour of gypsy jazz a few years back - a move that has seen him perform all over Europe, including performances at Buckingham Palace, Montreal Jazz Festival, the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and live on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 and ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3.
Μύ
2018 has seen a tour of France and Ireland where he'll be returning to next year.
Μύ

Turning down Duran Duran!

We hear live music from the Worcester band Shaun Kelly & The Returned Gifts.
Μύ
The group - mainly made up of brothers - have been collaborating on new sounds that mix elements of west coast guitar pop with classic British melodic agendas, leading to national airplay.
Μύ
Their debut album 'The Boy On The Bench' was released in the summer taking influences from Jonny Richman, Pixies, The Cure, Charles Bukowski, Teenage Fanclub, Philip Larkin and Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad fame!
Μύ
However, Shaun was once offered a songwriting partnership with Andy Taylor of Duran Duran - only to turn it down as it would have split up his current project!
Μύ

In session

This week's live session comes from the Kidderminster band Dharma Bums, who focus on transporting the listener to another time or place.
Μύ
Drawing from a wide range of influences across the musical spectrum, the band are also inspired by literature, art, film, history, current affairs and personal experience.
Μύ
β€œHighly nostalgic and highly recommended - almost like a musical Tardis!” - Andrew Marston.
Μύ

Switching on Worcester's Christmas Lights

Our sessions, this month, come from the Worcester Christmas Lights switch-on ceremony.
Μύ
Not only was this a fantastic opportunity for the musicians we selected (who didn’t even know they were being considered for this incredible gig), but also a chance for thousands of people to see the amazing talent we have right here on our doorstep.
Μύ
As always, we also hope this will also inspire other musicians to share their music with us.
Μύ
The event, this year, moved from the Guildhall to the newly-revamped Cathedral Square under the statue of Sir Edward Elgar.
Μύ

The live music advent calendar

Throughout the whole of December, we're dedicating the second hour of our shows to live music.
Μύ
We won't be playing a single CD, MP3, tape or vinyl - because we're giving you the music you won't be able to get anywhere else on the planet!
Μύ
This week, hear tracks performed at ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Broadcasting House, the Montreal Jazz Festival,Μύthe ,Μύ,Μύ,Μύ, Μύand atΜύ.
