‘6 months is nothing for killing my son’

Alfie O’Keefe Hedges is one of the hundreds of people who’ve been killed by hit and run drivers in recent years.

Over the past four years, 5 Live investigates has found that the number of hit and run incidents has gone up by 46% across England and Wales.

The hit and run driver who killed Alfie was sentenced to 12 months in prison. He served six months.

Alfie's mother Joanne O’Keefe told Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 5 Live: “I think a longer sentence would have made a difference to me, obviously not my heartache, that will never go away, but I would have felt justice was done.â€

The CPS said: "The test for 'dangerousness' is an objective one: the manner of the driving must have fallen far below the standard required, making a charge of dangerous driving appropriate."
