What to expect in the US midterms

With less than three weeks to go until the US midterm elections, the big question is whether the Democrats can come roaring back from what was a shattering defeat two years ago. Some are predicting the referendum could come down to the President's performance.

Donald Trump has had a bumpy ride in recent weeks due to bitter rows over his choice of Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court and lurid headlines about his own alleged sexual misconduct. But President Trump also has positive economic data going for him, including low unemployment and a revamped trade deal with Canada and Mexico.

The economist Irwin Stelzer from the Hudson Institute in Washington gave a preview of the race.
