Jayne and Joe are colleagues in the reference support department at the British Library, where they have both worked for around thirty years. Jayne was born with a cleft lip and palate which was operated on when she was 18 mths old. Having grown up in Northumberland she moved to London after her degree. Joe was born in Spain and came to London with his family when he was 3. At the time of recording their conversation, they both felt reticent at first about taking part feeling perhaps it 'wasn't for me' but realised that was all the more reason to do so. They had been friends for eight years at this point. During the conversation they discuss whether Joe had had any misgivings about talking to Jayne when they met.
