DJ Alfredo, father of the Balearic sound, chats about the joys of Ibiza

After emigrating to Spain and arriving on the Balearic island of Ibiza in September 1976 Alfredo Fiorito became a DJ at Amnesia, where his eclectic DJ style had a major influence on dance music's explosion on the island and beyond in the late 1980s. While on holiday in the Summer of 1987 four young aspiring British DJs Paul Oakenfold, Nicky Holloway, Johnny Walker and Danny Rampling experienced Alfredo's mix of soul, rock, pop, and house music and immediately brought the 'Balearic' sound back to the UK, setting up their own club nights. This in turn led to raves, the explosion of acid house, and the 'Second Summer of Love' in 1988.
