Is Facebook more like a newspaper?

Every month, one in three of the planet's population logs on to Facebook. The world's biggest social network is - for many people - not only a place to find out what friends and family are up to, it's also their gateway to the world. The company is increasingly controversial; for its role in the spread of misinformation, the use and misuse of our data, and its appetite for buying up smaller rivals. In the row about fake news, Facebook has always maintained it is not a publisher, it is a mere conduit for others' information. Is that stance right? Economist Irwin Stelzer from the Hudson Institute in the US explains.
