Ten Pieces - Creative response - Southbank International School
"We spent the day at London's National Portrait Gallery at a songwriting workshop in conjunction with Pete Letanka and English Touring Opera. We created a song inspired by a portrait of Handel painted by Thomas Hudson, and music from Zadok the Priest."
Lyrics:
His father broke his dreams, his motherβs heart is gold
He looks up to his mother, his fatherβs just plain cold
By the age of 10, he started writing music
His mother gave him lessons while his father went to work.
His mother said βNow fatherβs gone, Go get your violinβ
And young Handel sat quickly down and started composing
He knew he had something in him and he had to let it out
Thanks to his mum he could follow his dreams without a single doubt.
He takes other peopleβs pebbles and turns them into diamonds
Writing music for grand weddings and royal coronations.
Open-minded, kind, generous and caring.
Left a legacy fit for a celebration.
