Scottish Queer International Film Festival | Into It
Helen Wright is the coordinator of the Scottish Queer International Film Festival (SQIFF). She feels that the mainstream can’t necessarily be trusted when it comes to queer representation in film and that's why it's important that independent film festivals like SQIFF exist.
Helen spent time in London and went to a London LGBT film festival that was really inspiring. She realised this was missing in Scotland so decided to put on a film festival catering to LGBTQ+ audiences and showing a wide range of diverse and inclusive films and other media. A big part of what's driven Helen to put on the event is the fact that LGBTQ+ people are represented badly in mainstream media and this is a good way to express the opinions of the community itself.
