β€œProblems with mental health can be hard enough” by Suli Breaks performed by Ashley Rice

A short film produced by Doctors as part of Mental Health Awareness Week

β€œSuli Breaks, a spoken word artist from London, originally wrote and performed "Problems with mental health can be hard enough," to support Time to Change. Time to Change is the anti-stigma campaign, led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, which aims to change how we all think and act about mental health problems. The poem is about teenagers who had mental health problems when they were younger and faced stigma as a result. The film calls on young people to think twice about judging a friend or classmate who has a mental health problem. Suli said β€œIt’s not always attention seeking and it’s not always exaggerated – there could be a mental health issue which revolves around some of these things. If people are more aware of it, it prevents exclusion, it prevents discrimination and people who are maybe experiencing such issues from being stigmatised.” You can see more of Suli’s spoken word work on his website (www.sulibreaks.com).

β€œSet up to create a positive shift in public attitudes towards mental health problems, Time to Change supports communities, schools and workplaces to open up to mental health problems; to talk and to listen. For more information go to www.time-to-change.org.uk.

β€œMind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. To find out more please visit www.mind.org.uk.”
