Former 'Ultra' says fan stabbings β€˜a ritual’

A former β€˜Ultra’ says that the stabbing of opposition fans is β€œa ritual”, ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final second leg in the Italian capital on Wednesday.

Pierluigi Spagnolo told James Horncastle of 5 live's Euro Leagues Football Show podcast about the behaviour.

"Rome is the city of β€˜puncicate’, the 'flash stabbing' in Roman slang, often directed at the buttocks of fans who come on their own to the stadium,” he said.

β€œIt’s a ritual, a bad ritual, that Roma Ultras repeat also against Italian fans."
