Street violence: Could London learn from Los Angeles?
After an increase in the number of gun and knife related deaths in London, 5 live has spoken to a City Council member from a district in Los Angeles which has reduced violent crime.
Los Angelesβ 15th District set up the Watts Gang Task Force in 2006. It brings together police, community leaders, city government and former and active gang members for a weekly meeting.
Speaking to 5 live's Charlie Charlton; Joe Buscaino said that "residents are now not afraid of coming forward and helping the police department investigate crimes.β
Mr Buscaino said London could adopt a similar scheme to help identify criminals who are committing crimes in communities.
