Outed in the Royal Air Force
Corporal Toni Richardson from Wakefield joined the Royal Air Force when she was 16, shortly before her 17th birthday.
Aged 18, she was outed as gay by people at work, in front of an office full of colleagues:
βThey said, 'you've got a girlfriend now then? We saw you with her the other day,' I was in complete shock,β.
βIt's not that I couldn't cope with it, it is just I didn't know how I felt at the time.β
Toni, now 30, said she hoped by sharing her story, it would help other young LGBT people in the military βbe who they want to be".
