Raven Chacon: How to imitate a chair scraping along the floor
Native American composer Raven Chacon talks to Hear and Now about the variety of ways he recreates his sound of the week - the sound of a chair being pulled along a floor. Whether it's the hard scratching of strings in Journey of the Horizontal People written for the Kronos Quartet, or the piece Atsiniltlish’ iye, for flute, clarinet, bassoon, cello and percussion, or even his electronic work featuring the scratching of mull deer antlers against glass, Chacon has found a variety of inventive ways to recreate this sound.
This edition of Sound of the Week first appeared on Hear & Now on Saturday 17th March 2018.
