On Air In the Heart of Dakar's Traffic Jams
Dakar, like many big cities in Africa, suffers from heavy congestion. Residents driving in to work from the suburbs spend on average 3 hours a day getting to and from the city centre. A traffic reporter for a local radio station has found the best way to give the most accurate traffic updates to listeners: by being in the traffic jams themselves. Abba Diatta, from Dakar radio Zik FM, drives his scooter every morning from the suburbs into Dakar updating listeners on the conditions. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Joshua Thorpe rode pillion on Abba’s early morning shift.
