How can road safety be improved in Kenya?

In December 2017, 330 people were killed on Kenyan roads. Almost every day there are newspaper articles about the latest casualties or about the latest promises by the government to improve safety. But nothing changes - buses and minibuses - known locally as matatus - remain overloaded and are often unroadworthy. Dangerous driving is common and traffic police are accused by all road users of taking bribes instead of enforcing laws.

Simon Kimutai is the chairman of the Matatu Owners Association - the businesses which run 80% of the matatu buses on Kenyan roads. Alan Kasujja met up with him in Nairobi to ask what can be done to improve road safety.
