Controlling my stammer through music
A young woman who has had a stammer since childhood has gained confidence in her voice through writing and singing songs.
Jessie Stride was bullied at school for the way she spoke:
βI am such a talkative, confident person, and before everyone just thought that I was really shy.β
βWhen I would sing, I wouldnβt stammer, so thatβs how I expressed myselfβ, said Jessie.
βWhen I sung I was just me, and not the person who was labelled to have a stammer.β
βIt just really helped me to find my voice and to be a lot more accepting to the fact that I have a stammerβ, added the 21-year-old.
Jessieβs song βControlβ is about living with a stammer, and the music video features other young stammerers.
