Update: Separatist Parties set to Win Catalan Election

Madrid ordered the poll after an independence referendum was ruled unlawful.

Catalonia's separatist parties are on course to secure victory in regional elections less than three months after Madrid branded an independence referendum illegal. Guy Hedgecoe dissects the preliminary results.

America has imposed sanctions on more than 50 people and organisations for alleged corruption and human rights violations, including the former president of the Gambia. Financier Bill Browder explains the significance of the sanctions.
