Are classrooms calmer with a llama?
School children in Penrith enjoyed one of their most memorable lessons when two llamas from the 'Llama Karma Kafe' were brought in to their classroom.
'Cuba' and 'Bilby' visited the pupils to teach them about things like geography, business and animal care.
Teacher Mrs Bland feels the animalβs presence brings something fresh to the classroom:
βI felt that I wanted them to think about where the animals came from.β
βI wanted them to think about why they were in the country, thinking about why would we have llamas in Cumbria, because the children are used to seeing cows and sheep.β
βWeβve worked with kids with challenging behaviour, so that immediately engages them. They want to learn, They want to be there,β added Caroline Walker from the Llama Karma Kafe.
And judging by their response, these children thought the lesson was one of their best yet.
