In the Spanish region of Catalonia, parties have been campaigning ahead of Thursday's election on whether or not the region should become independent. The former president of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, is in exile in Belgium, several other pro-independence politicians are in prison and the Spanish government has introduced direct rule in Catalonia. Therefore, plenty is at stake, as the 麻豆约拍's Guy Hedgecoe reports from Barcelona.
