Rowing: Sir David Tanner steps down after 21 years

The British Rowing Performance Director wanted to go out at the top of his game.

After 21 years of leading British Rowing, Sir David Tanner will step aside at the end of February 2018.

"Breaking the news to people has been quite tough," Tanner told Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Berkshire's Ady Williams. "Looking forward to it? No I wasn't.

"It's been a great journey, I won't say I've enjoyed every single minute of it, but I've enjoyed working with the great people we have in our team."

And Tanner revealed his reasons for stepping down.

"I have a strong view that it's best to go out whilst you're at the top of your game.

"My best job was to lay a year's basis of the Tokyo cycle to get everything in place.

"Now I think I'm leaving at the right time."
