Girl DJs - the next generation
After 16 years experience of DJing at some of the best club nights in the UK, veteran DJ Miss Melodie is training the next female DJ generation.
After seeing a lack of female representation, Miss Melodie decided to set up her DJ Academy in Leeds to help encourage more females to take part: βDJing is changing slowly but itβs still a male-dominated business.β
The academy was set up in 2007, but her female-focused class has taken off in the last 18 months
Starting from aged eight up to 16, Melodie says, she likes to start from the very basics:
βI don't just teach them how to press sync, I teach them the old school way, by ear.β
