A Hull man and the Hull North MP call for more clarity on the UK Contaminated Blood Public Inquiry

Glen Wilkinson is one of thousands who was given contaminated blood by the NHS

A Hull man and the Hull North MP, Diana Johnson, want more clarity as to how the UK wide public inquiry into the contaminated blood scandal will be carried out. Glenn Wilkinson is one of around 34 thousand people who were infected with HIV or Hepatitis C when they were given contaminated blood by the NHS in the 1970s and 80s as a result of the blood products. In this interview with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Political Reporter Sarah Sanderson, Mr Wilkinson talks about how he fears that some people infected by the contaminated blood scandal may not live to see the outcome of this inquiry. Hull North MP Diana Johnson is now calling for a Chair to be appointed for this inquiry by Christmas. Diana Johnson, who is also the co-leader of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood, would also like to see this inquiry lead the way into how other inquiries are conducted in the future. In a statement, the Cabinet Office says "This government is clear that it wants to see the contaminated blood inquiry begin as soon as possible. The First Secretary of State, Damian Green, has announced that the inquiry will be statutory and sponsored by the Cabinet Office. He will be holding a series of meetings with some of the victims, stakeholders and relevant MPs, including Ms Johnson, as part of establishing the inquiry. Further announcements will be made before the House rises for Christmas."
