The children who built their own Republic

From 1944-1950, orphaned children of post-war Budapest found a new home in Gaudiopolis, also known as the City of Joy. Lutheran Pastor, GΓ΅bor Sztehlo, helped these children make their own republic; a place where they made their own rules in the hope of making a new future. The exhibition 'Somewhere in Europe - Gaudiopolis' is part of this year's international contemporary art event, OFF-Biennale Budapest. The curator of the exhibition, Katalin SzΓ©kely, told Dan Damon more about the young democracy.
