MPs will tonight call for a 'fair share' of transport investment for Yorkshire and the Humber. The Hull North MP, Diana Johnson, is leading a House of Commons debate on transport infrastructure investment in Northern England this evening. Diana Johnson says "If the Government is serious about the Northern Powerhouse and Theresa May, as Prime Minister, says she is serious about this, then lets see the money. Its all very well having warm words but lets actually get the money so we can become that real powerhouse for the country." Listen to Diana Johnson speak to ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Political Reporter, Sarah Sanderson ahead of the Commons debate here. In a statement, the Department for Transport says β€œWe are carrying out the biggest investment in transport in the north of England for a generation, investing billions of pounds to better connect communities, build the Northern Powerhouse and deliver improved journeys for passengers. All trains on the Northern route will be brand new or refurbished by 2020. We have also given Transport for the North 60 million pounds to develop plans and look forward to working with them once proposals are submitted.”
