Oireachtas na Samhna i mBéal Feirste 1997

Oireachtas na Samhna in Belfast 1997

An cuimhin leat cá raibh tú aimsir na Samhna in 1997? Bhuel, bhí cuimhne mhaith ag lucht freastail Oireachtas na Samhna ar an tréimhse sin mar gur i mBéal Feirste a bhíodar don fhéile. Sa chlár seo, breathnaíonn Treasa Bhreathnach siar ar an fhéile áirithe sin ina dteannta siúd a bhí i láthair ann, mar Choncubhar Ó Liatháin, Éamonn Ó Donnchadha as Ráth Ciarn, buaiteoir Choirn Uí Riada na bliana sin agus Uachtarán fhéile na bliana sin, Albert Fry. Cloisfidh sibh roinnt mhaith ábhair cartlainne de chuid Â鶹ԼÅÄ Thuaisceart Éireann agus RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta fosta. Amharcfar ar iarrachtaí mhuintir Bhéal Feirste Oireachtas na Samhna a thabhairt ar ais chun na cathrach in 2023 mar chuid den tairiscint le go mbronnfaí gradam Chathair Chultúrtha na hEorpa ar Bhéal Feirste agus Doire.

Do you remember where you were on Halloween of 1997? Well, attendees of the festival Oireachtas na Samhna will remember it well as they were attending the festival in Belfast. Treasa Bhreathnach takes a look back on that particular festival with those who were part of it, including speakers such as Concubhar Ó Liatháin, the winner of Corn Uí Riada Éamonn Ó Donnchadha, and the president of that year's festival, Albert Fry. You will also hear some some archive material broadcast at the time from Â鶹ԼÅÄ Northern Ireland and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. We will also take a look at the efforts of Belfast people to bring the festival back to Belfast in 2023 as part of their bid to win the title of European Capital of Culture for Belfast and Derry.
