The CFA Franc: A Colonial Currency?
The controversial currency used in Senegal, West Africa - a French-speaking country - is attracting renewed protests because of associations with historical French control of the country. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Joshua Thorpe speaks to those in Senegal who want to abolish the CFA Franc - formerly the French African Colonial Franc - which is still used by 14 West and Central African countries. Some view the CFA Franc's imposition as a neocolonialist method of control and ask for its abolition - but is the country's economy stable enough to change its currency?
