Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Minute: On 'bro-culture'

As part of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's 100 women series, Nuala McGovern met women working in Silicon Valley to find out more about the 'glass ceiling'. The home of hi-tech industries is the front line in the battle for gender equality in the workplace. A recent study showed just one in 10 senior positions there are held by women. So what are the biggest barriers to top-level promotion? 'Bro-culture' - the dominance of young white men that can create an unwelcoming environment for women - has been cited as one of the reasons that women drop out of the tech industry at twice the rate of men. Stanford University graduates Lea Coligado and Sasha Perigo shared their experiences.
